Creating Awesome Theatre in the Heart of Times Square

Notes

On Creating

Wow, a new year.  New adventures and lots of new plays! And we are just thrilled out of our minds to be creating theatre here at Manhattan Rep.  Next week, we begin our Winterfest 2010 play festival with two very exciting new plays and we are in the process of revamping our facilities to make them more user friendly, more adaptable and more comfortable for the creative teams who put up their work here.  And we are brining back my amazingly fun dating play, The Match Game.  Can’t wait!

It has been four years four months since we opened the doors here at Manhattan Rep and what a wonderful ride it has been.  Believe it or not, we have produced over 325 plays.

WHAT?  Over 325 plays in 52 months?

Yes.

It is mind-boggling. And hopefully in the process, we have improved the ways that we can assist the production teams who work in our intimate little space on 42nd St.

I think we have.  Like in rehearsal, practice makes perfect.

As we move into this new decade, we are looking at ways to expand what we do here with different genre festivals, new types or ways of doing theatre and possibly if we can find the dancers willing, a Dance show or two.  If you have any ideas about NEW FORMS here at Manhattan Rep, please feel free to email us at manhattanrep@yahoo.com.

Creating theatre is one of the most challenging, and rewarding things that I have ever undertaken.  It is not easy, but it is always worth the blood, sweat and tears.  If you have been on the fence about a play you someday hope to write and put up, go for it. It will transform this year and your life.

Both Jen and I wish you the very best and most amazingly creative New Year!
